Birthday Trip to Glade Top Trail

In addition to being my birthday, my wife suggested that we go camping near Glade Top Trail! On one hand my ears could have deceived me. On the other hand I said “WHAT????”

She suggested that we just make a quick trip down to Hercules Glades and spend the night and come back the next day! She wanted to take all three Weiner dogs with us to get them comfortable traveling with us again.

Our little adventure

Hercules Glades is not to far from our location. It is about an hour and a half away. Then I suggested that we go for two days camping and come back on the 24th Christmas Eve.

Then I saw my youngest brother and asked him if he wanted to go with us. He said sure thing I want to go!

In addition to my brother recently purchasing our old jeep that we used to have. He was looking for any excuse to go off road with it and this would be the perfect time/place to take him. We had also recently purchased a new to us travel vehicle and we decided to give it a maiden voyage to shake things down and see if there was any kinks we needed to worked out before taking any longer trips.

Indeed we all had a great time in spite of it being cold outside.

So here is pictures of our fantastic time that we spent in/on America’s First Scenic Byway the Glade Top Trail.

If we ever get stuck we have a recovery team of Oscar & Lucy!
We did stumble on to an old cemetery down a long dead end road with steep hills and muddy potholes.
Where lighting hit this tree, This area just had a wild fire that recently burned 2,000 acers just 2 weeks prior to us being here.
Part of the burn from the wild fire.
No shortage of food on this trip!

My brother could not believe that this was Missouri! He had never been to this area before.
Storm rolling in. We got a little bit of rain.

The next morning at Hercules Glades Lookout Tower. It got cold that night. Down to 23 degrees with windchill of 12 degrees! We had frost on the inside of the suburban.

Making our departure and headed back to civilization.
